THE BRIEF

This was a concept created as a passion project and for which we then sought an investor/developer. Our idea was a simple one: to bring Cool India to the forefront of the global restaurant and bar scene. This was easier said than done because Indian restaurants tend to focus on a particular regional cuisine or heritage. 

OUR APPROACH

We decided first and foremost that the bar would have as much precedence as the restaurant, as we were creating a fun gathering place that brings the Indian sub-continent’s modernist food, drink, music, fashion, art and style to the forefront.

India is a global powerhouse and it deserves a re-think in the culinary pantheon. We took a page out of Japanese, Chinese and Peruvian cuisine, all ethnic movements that have been formatted for a global crowd.

We also knew that it was important to stay authentic by using classic recipes and adding a format, presentation or slight ingredient twist (think Tandoori lobster roll). By enlisting a high profile New York based Indian chef, as well as a well-known international mixologist, we developed a menu that is gorgeous and superbly culinary without fuss and pomp. 

We merged this urbanised Indian food concept with a setting that is funky and eclectic, the result of a very close collaboration with a young and talented Indian design firm.

THE OUTCOME

Masti is a celebration of modern, globalist India. It is the Indian urban experience defined in a contemporary space that offers food, drink, entertainment, fashion and fun to the international metropolitan.
